The Brief
Overview
A personal project built around one graphic identity, taken from a charity rally livery through to studio grade 3D surfacing. The original design drew on Ken Block’s livery work and Death Spray Custom’s graphic style, applied across a mixed fleet with a locked blueprint grid for consistent brand placement. The same identity was later rebuilt digitally for a McLaren hypercar, including a direct recreation of a McLaren promotional render spotted on their own channels.
The Challenge
Design a bold, cohesive livery across a mixed fleet on a tight budget without full vinyl wraps. Later, take that same identity further: map it onto hypercar geometry with a studio grade finish, match an existing McLaren render as closely as possible, and present it consistently across a full range of specifications.
The Approach
Formulated partial-wrap designs using base paint colours and a unified blueprint grid across the rally fleet. In Blender, the identity was rebuilt onto compound-curve hypercar geometry, then set against a specific brief: recreate a McLaren promotional render’s setting, camera angles and lighting as closely as possible. The same livery was then run through a locked-camera studio rig to produce a full set of specification variants.

Physical Execution
The Chasing Markham livery, inspired by Ken Block and Death Spray Custom, built across a mixed charity rally fleet with one locked brand grid.

Visual Direction
A side by side study against a McLaren MCL6 GT render spotted on McLaren’s own channels. Rebuilt to match the setting, camera angle and light.

Specification Gallery
One livery, eight specifications. Paint, carbon and wheel finishes swapped on a locked scene so spec is the only variable

The Anatomy of the Project
The studio rig, vector artwork and UV mapped wireframes behind the renders.

Results
The Execution
Formulated partial-wrap livery designs using base paint colours to avoid full-wrap costs
Engineered a unified blueprint grid for consistent brand placement across a mixed rally fleet
Rebuilt the identity digitally, mapping 2D graphics onto compound-curve hypercar geometry without distortion
Recreated a McLaren promotional render’s setting, camera angles and lighting as a personal study
Built a locked-camera studio scene to produce a full seven-way specification set
Delivered accurate vector artwork alongside UV mapped wireframes documenting the surfacing process
The Solution
A single graphic identity carried from a charity rally livery through to a self-directed McLaren surfacing study, covering the full pipeline from concept and vector delivery through to studio grade, specification-ready visualisation.
